My favorite thing...

After the school performance, Kari fell in love with the "Jingle-Bell" song. She'd ask me to play it over and over again for her as she dances and sings along. One day I made chicken soup for the girls. Kayla stood by me with her cute little mouth open, staring at the food, and asking for "肉肉 (meat)". One bite after another, she kept her eyes on the chicken and me. I begged Kari to stop her "Jingle Bell" for a minute and come eat.

As Kari hopped over happily, she declared, "妹妹喜歡 (Mei Mei likes) Jingle Bell!" Kayla, still standing faithfully by my side waiting for her next bite, whispered, "姐姐喜歡肉肉 (kayla likes meat)..."

We brought them to perhaps their first Christmas party this year. Surprisingly it turned out much better than we expected. Kayla was her usual self, cool and composed. Kari roamed around the room and even conversed with a big boy, asking him to "share" his toy car. Briefly we left the house to the car for the diaper change. Kari was displeased, and refused to leave the "party". She said, Mei mei wants to go to the party!" I think she really enjoyed it! She talked about going to "party" for the rest
of the car ride home.

Kayla feeding bread to her little sister Kari...

Santa made it to the party!!! kayla sat on Santa's lap for less than a second, and got her present before she leisurely walked off set. Although Santa was stranger to Kari, the temptation of the gift was too much to resist. She cautiously approached, snatched her gift off his hand, and quickly ran back to Daddy...

Our final surprise was a visit from neighbors singing Christmas Carols! Kayla welcomed them. Kari was a little agitated and began to loudly scold them in her Chinglish.... No idea what she said.

First Christmas Carol Performance

Oh it was such a successful performance in our books.... No hysterical cries. No jumping off the stage. You should've heard the "Ahh...wooo...awww..." when KK stepped onto the stage. The smallest of the bunch, they were so adorable just standing there!

BEST FRIENDS

If you must know, this I-can-hardly-stand-it sweetness came right after Kari slapped Kayla across the head for wanting her toy, followed by a sincere "I am sorry", followed by a tiny kiss, then came the wholehearted hugs of apology and forgiveness from both...

Best friends...forever.

LA ZOO

KK love their visit to the zoo today. They enjoy saying hello to the hippo, the rhino, and the giraffe. Daddy's shoulders are their observation deck...

Ready for a kiss from Lala?

Possibility of getting both to stand still for a picture? One in a million...
Possibility of getting both to stand still and smile at once in a picture? hmmm...
Possibility of getting a picture of both with no pissed-off expression from either? Now we're talking.

Back on the lovely observation deck...
Kari carefully held onto her cutiepie sunglasses through the entire trip. As Kari would say, See you later, Alligator...

Halloween

My honey bees went trick-o-treating at Victoria Garden this year. When we arrived, we found baby bee sound asleep in the backseat. Our Lala bee had fallen asleep standing in my laps. She was able to wake up in time and sleep-walk through the streets trick-o-treating with cousin Kenneth, while little baby bee had a sweet dream in her stroller.

Lala bee was a little stunned through the whole adventure. She held onto the first piece of candy, M&Ms, that she got and never let go. A stranger walked by and thought the honey bee adorable. He gently swiped her bee antenna above her head as he passed Lala bee. She turned around and gave him a look (dirty?) and a stare for a minute. The sales people waved at Lala as well through the store window. She walked up to them, tilted her little bumble bee head and took a closer look at them, and then blew them a kiss before walking off. She jumped, hopped, and bounced down the street... Cute and happy little bumble bee.

Upon arrival at Grandma and Grandpa's house, baby bee finally awoke. She excitedly ran in yelling, "TRICK-O-TREAT!" She couldn't wait to eat her reward!

The UGLY (getting ready): putting on the bumble bee outfits with cookie bribes, little bees ripping off one antenna, one sock, one shoe, one pom pom, running around like bees on ecstasy, malicuiously attacking their own wings, pulling off bee tops, crying and throwing a fit....and Mommy putting everything back in place frantically with occasional threats...Lookimg forward to the next Halloween already.

New school- Rainbow

KK started a new daycare as they turned two. There are more kids in this program, younger teachers, and I think KK are liking it better overall. They are learning English finally...It's hilarious to hear Kari imitate the tones and sentences. Now she sounds like she's speaking Japanese to me... Kayla is sticking with her Chinese.

Their teachers: Mr. Lily, Mr. Jaime, and Ms.Molly. They seem kind and patient. I think they are doing well. The first day they right away sat amongst the rest, enjoying their lunch. Kayla liked drinking out of the cup, and oh she did so well!

Making their way down the stair today KK started chanting, "jasmine.. jasmine ...help me down". Then they giggled and had so much fun.

I have comes to terms with the fact that little kari will always cry and fight when I drop her off each morning. Lovely kayla makes up for it and brings peace to my mind. She is at ease no matter where she goes. I am thankful that at least I don't have to worry about her. In fact, I think she likes school very much. Everytime I mention school, she'd say "shoo... Shoo..." (the sound of going down the slide) Although Kari puts up a fight in the morning, she always says "yes" when I ask her if she'd like to go to school again tomorrow. She even missed it yesterday and asked to go..."chi shuy shia...chi shay shia"

First day of school

KK finally started daycare. We worried, mostly about about little Kari. kayla is the good baby no matter where she goes. It's comforting to know that they have each other's company all the time, however. The teacher said that Kari cried intermittently, expected. Kayla must have acted as if she's hung around there forever. We did tell her the trick: take her out to the slide!! They really did quite well for their first day!

On their second, there was a little friend that came and hugged Kari. Daddy and Mommy had to sneak out during their outdoor play time. They were so excited to get on the slide that it didn't matter that we had left!

School Day

KK had their first experience of daycare today. In search of a good home away from home for them, we school hopped a little. Each place they went to, they were too excited to leave. Kari found her favorite slide every school she went to. I think they are going to be just fine!

A very very hot day

Oh how do we survive the heat? Ended up in the mall in these little cars for the girls. I think KK were waiting for the cars to start moving. They didn't. Five dollars per ride, yikes! No, the cars never moved out of the assembly...

still...they had a good time.

Neighbor's porch

KK thought it was so much fun to explore the front porch of each house. Mommy and Daddy were worried about trespassing... Here's Daddy giving direct order to leave the property!

piggy face

Don't you just love that expression on Kari? That's her cutest piggy face...

That ice cream in Kayla hand... It's not real. Doesn't stop her from taking a big bite off it!
